Bengaluru Drenched Rain Woes Continue, North Bengaluru Hit Hardest

Recent insistent showers have been quite the trouble for Bengaluru, which is on a constant struggle with infrastructural shortcomings. The last three days have seen our city water – washed with the northern parts of Bengaluru being the worst affected.

Sunk Streets

Many of the places in and around Yelahanka seem to be underwater while some streets have turned into puddles. Kendriya Vihar, a large area in the locality suffered due to water logging due to a waist high water level in the region. Some residents had to escape to the rooftop while rescue teams like the NDRF and the SDRF resorted to the use of coracles in order to access and retrieve stranded citizens.

Life on Hold

The population of people residing in and around North Bangalore has been disturbed due to the rainy season and waterlogging. Educational centers have been shut down while a lot of experts have also resorted to do so. People on the roads have found themselves struggling with time as there have been disruptions in flights and delays. The devastations caused by the floods have nearly submerged people’s homes, cars, and electronic devices.

Government Response

D.K. Shivakumar, the Deputy Chief Minister in charge of the Bengaluru Development, said that the situation is really bad. He stated that while climate change is affecting weather systems, measures were being taken by the government to minimize the impacts.

He stated that the city needs to develop long-term infrastructure solutions that will ensure its safety from extreme weather conditions. As part of efforts to invest in urban development sustainably, the government is taking measures to improve flood management, including enhanced drainage networks and green infrastructure development.

“Nature cannot be avoided, but we are there to help,” he said, noting that five NDRF and SDRF teams have been sent on the ground for rescue and relief efforts.

IMD’s upcoming forecast reveals that there are expectancies of the lightning and thunder conditions and precipitation that would cover some districts of Karnataka including Bengaluru Urban & Bengaluru Rural areas. Some regions will also be experiencing very many rains for some reasons.

Following the relentless downpour in the city, there are notable signs of despair for residents and authorities alike as there are more complications anticipated in the days to come. People still concentrate on the safety of the citizens and reducing the effect of the floods.  To the present disaster, the government developed a comprehensive plan of course for relief, rehabilitation and rebuilding that seeks to assist the affected households in shelter, food and health care needs.
